Spring 2014 was the most exhilarating, self defining and independent moment I had experienced in a long time.. Besides the fact that I graduated from my dream school Howard University, magma cum laude, I had the new mission of finding housing in Philly. A little back story.. I had recently accepted admission to a doctoral program in Philadelphia for my physical therapy degree.. my top choice. So now I had to figure out where I would be living for the next 2.5 years. First step find roommates...next visit Philly to look at potential places after graduation. Fortunate for my roommates and I, we found a place during our first visit which was amazing. We looked at a total of four places but fell in love with one particular newly renovated apartment in the University City area. Everything was falling into place until recently my roommates and I found out our dream apartment wouldn't be complete until September 1.. which conflicts with the fact that we need to be in by Aug 1st.
Finding housing in a city we didn't live in yet had been very interesting. There are multiple steps that need to be well planned and thought out before committing to a place.
1. You need to research the different neighborhoods that you potentially would like to live in ind the best most affordable property
2. Find housing that is works for you and your roommates
3. Find a co-signer.. if required...
4. Save money
5. And most importantly being resilient when you plans change.
I am very confident that my roommates and I will find housing by August 1st.. prayers up and I will keep you guys posted with our progress.
