Hola mis amigos!!
So proud to say that I completed the first week of PT school!! (sigh of relief) It wasn't as bad as I imagined but it was no way a cake walk. I am taking 6 classes 4 days a week, Wednesday we don't have classes and I'm glad because I got the chance to catch up on my life outside of school. My two most demanding courses are anatomy and kinesiology, I have a undergrad background in both courses but PT school goes more in depth and requires a lot more attention. We are dissecting cadavers in anatomy lab and fortunately for me in undergrad I was exposed to it. The cadaver labs aren't as bad as you would imagine... the formaldehyde can be a lot at first but once you're in the lab over a certain time you get accustomed to the smell. My other 4 classes are more towards professional development, clinical skills and intervention practices. My cohort is relatively average for a PT school, there are 56 of us. Another thing I can appreciate at my school is how supportive the faculty staff, second year students and my cohort are. That was a major factor I used when deciding which program I would attend. I didn't want competitiveness or being just a "number" to the faculty, that is not the case at my school. We even have second year mentors who help guide us if we have any questions.
From the first week I can tell this program is going to be very intense and require a lot of time. I study everyday because I honestly want to learn as much as I can so I can become the best health care professional I can be. I love the material which makes it a lot easier when its time to study. I'm in class most days 8am-5pm and even longer on Fridays so getting study time in can be kinda hard but it s important to study a little everyday so prevent falling behind on the material... which can happen.
I have a work study job on campus but I hardly go, maybe once a week for 3 hours. Some of my classmates aren't traditional students and have families and work obligations, but if you don't have to work I wouldn't. Thats all for me ! I will try to update as much as possible !
Best of luck to those interviewing around this time!
